…invite your participation in an international music education conference to be held at the Faculty of Education, University of Waikato, on January 7-10, 2013. The conference theme highlights the role music education can play in the growth of persons, in bringing people together, in celebrating connectedness with place, and in embracing the musics that make us what we are.

The conference committee invites paper presentations and workshops from local and international presenters that relate in some way to the philosophy and practices of Orff Schulwerk as an approach to music education in its broadest sense.

The organisers have identified the following five themes as providing a focus for this conference:

• Music out of movement, and music and other expressive modalities
• Music and the growth of persons
• Music and community: Making music together
• Music as an expression of identity
• The teaching and learning process
